A Dramatic Restoration

This Fernwood 1892 character home could have been called a “rescue.” With nearly 130 years of residential wear and neglect, the house had to be entirely rebuilt for revival. Thanks to dedicated owners, it stands today.

Jenny Martin Design worked to tribute the house’s turn-of-the-century style, and maintain the project’s pace while the owners were away. The goal: rehabilitate the original architecture and bring function and technology to the home.

The kitchen was a primary focus, as the owners love to entertain. Gallery walls were created for the clients’ robust art collection. A den dedicated to cocktail hour and perfectly balanced acoustics features historic Bank of Canada Doors and an antique fireplace from a bygone era.

Antique light fixtures were installed throughout the house, and the original fir floors were refinished to retain their old-world charm. A bold art-deco design in the powder room features Australian-made wallpaper, providing unexpected flare. Custom upholstery and antique furniture pieces honour the heritage of the architecture.

The effect is a dramatic and vibrant modern restoration, rich in history and spirit.
