Old-world Intrigue

Set alongside the Victoria Golf Club, this historic character house emanated potential as a family home, but had suffered from decades of neglect. The new owners, a young couple, could see through the wear and commissioned Jenny Martin Design to restore function and charm to this piece of Victoria heritage.

The aging structure was afflicted by tight spaces and a challenging flow, not uncommon to houses of the period. The design team reinvented the space to create a fluid floor plan and softened the atmosphere with a palette of greys and whites, all while honouring the history of the house.

The range takes centerstage in the European-inspired kitchen, with a striking facade that incorporates spice storage in the wings, and an antiqued mirror backsplash for depth as a tribute to the old-world aesthetic. Enduring quartz countertops with subtle veining nods to an era when marbles were a must in European kitchens. The original oak floors were revived with a classic Jacobean stain, establishing a warm traditional backdrop. Panelled appliances and bold glass pendants play off the theme, along with polished nickel European hardware in classic shapes: egg knob and rectangular backplates.

The effect is a modern salutation to old-world charm that fuses tradition with convenience for the ultimate livable luxury.
